Frequently Asked Questions
-
No — and that's intentional. Bookkeeping and tax preparation are two different jobs, and trying to do both usually means doing neither well. A bookkeeper keeps your financial records clean, accurate, and current all year long. A tax professional uses those records to file your return. Think of it this way: we do the work that makes your tax person's job easier — and your bill from them smaller, because they're not spending half their time cleaning up your books before they can even start.
-
Every dollar that comes into or goes out of your business gets recorded, categorized, and reconciled against your bank accounts — every month, without fail. From that we produce financial statements that tell you whether you're actually profitable, where your money is going, and whether your business is trending in the right direction. At Forge we go a step further and translate those numbers into plain language so you know what they mean and what to do about them — not just what they say.
-
Two reasons. First, "doing fine" is hard to know for certain without clean numbers — most owners who think they're doing fine are actually missing margin leaks, undercharging, or carrying more risk than they realize. Second, businesses that are doing fine can stop doing fine quickly. Equipment breaks, a few customers cancel, a lease comes up for renewal. Clean books mean you see problems early, when they're still small. The owners who get into real trouble are almost always the ones who found out too late.

We work exclusively with gym owners, fitness businesses, and small businesses. That means we already speak your language — ARR, EFT, floor staffing ratios, member churn — and we build your financials around the metrics that actually matter for your business model, not a generic chart of accounts designed for a retail store. You also get a direct line to a real person who knows your business, not a rotating cast of associates at a firm where you're one of hundreds of clients.

Our monthly bookkeeping packages start at $250/month for smaller operations and scale based on transaction volume and the level of advisory support you need. We also offer one-time cleanup engagements if your books have fallen behind. Every engagement starts with a free consultation so we can look at your actual situation before recommending anything. No pressure, no commitment required to have that first conversation.
-
Not much. Access to your accounting software (or we can help you get set up if you don't have one), your business bank account and credit card statements, and about 30 minutes for an initial conversation. You let me handle the rest from there.
-
It's never too late — it just takes a cleanup first. I've seen books in every condition imaginable. A cleanup engagement gets everything reconciled and brought current, and then we move into a regular monthly cadence from there. The sooner you start, the less ground there is to cover.
-
A few questions worth asking yourself: Can you pull a current profit and loss statement right now? Do you actually understand what it says? Does your bookkeeper ever proactively flag something — a cost creeping up, a cash flow concern — or do you only hear from them at tax time? If the answers are no, no, and only at tax time — there's room for improvement.

Fitness is my specialty and where I do my best work — but the financial challenges gym owners face aren't unique to gyms. If you're a service-based small business owner who wants cleaner books, clearer numbers, and someone who actually explains what they mean, it’s worth a conversation. Reach out and I'll tell you honestly whether it’s the right fit.
-
Reach out. Seriously — no gatekeeping, no "book a consultation to find out." If you have a quick question about your books, your numbers, or whether Forge might be a fit, just email austin@forgefinancialco.com and you’ll get a real answer from a real person.
